Tips for letter writing

•Keep the letters short and simple.
•Don't stress over what to write about. The
children just love hearing from you.
•Write about the topics you want to know from
your sponsored child.

Topics to avoid:
•Personal possessions
•Personal contact information
•What your sponsored child needs or wants for
a gift
•Religious activities and discussion
•Anything related to your sponsored child
coming to America - this will be seen as a
promise and although it may be something you
want to do, it is nearly impossible to acquire
visas for orphans.
•Promising anything - a visit, a gift, etc.

Suggested writing topics:
•Send some pictures and use the pictures as a
topic to write about.
•Your family
•Pets
•Your hobbies
•Your work or school activities
•Traditions or customs for holidays
•Trips or vacations
•Sports or activities you enjoy
•Geography of where you live
•Ask questions to learn more about your
sponsored child

Package instructions

You may send packages to your sponsored
child, but the package must be no bigger than
a 9" by 12" envelope. Please include your
child's name and number on the package you
send. Remember that packages take much
longer to arrive than a simple letter by email.

Items to avoid:
•coins/currency
•electronic items
•heat sensitive items (chocolate, etc.)
•things that are expensive
•anything with religious messages
•regular playing cards

•school/ art supplies (pencils, colored pencils,
crayons, notepads, construction paper)
